Special precautions

Also tell your doctor if you have recently had a heart attack and if you have or have ever had seizures; or liver, kidney, or heart disease.
  • Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding. If you become pregnant while taking cipralex, call your doctor.
  • You should know that cipralex may make you drowsy. Do not drive a car or operate machinery until you know how this medication affects you.
  • Remember that alcohol can add to the drowsiness caused by this medication.
  • You should know that your mental health may change in unexpected ways, especially at the beginning of your treatment and at any time your dose is increased or decreased.

Side effects

Cipralex may cause side effects:

  • upset stomach
  • diarrhea
  • vomiting
  • stomach pain
  • drowsiness
  • excessive tiredness
  • tremor
  • excitement
  • nervousness
  • difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep
  • muscle or joint pain
  • dry mouth
  • excessive sweating
  • changes in sex drive or ability
  • loss of appetite

Some side effects can be serious:

  • seeing things or hearing voices that do not exist (hallucinating)
  • seizure
